Rails are in the process of being removed. Ties will be coming out next week and there will be a pre-construction walk along the MRG this Thursday. From there, we should learn about the construction schedule. There are still some spikes to be pulled on 2 bridges, but this is not work for volunteers because of the dangers of falling. Things are happening!

Thanks for all the great work that is being done! I took a quick run on the trail last weekend from the 5-corners location going toward West Lebanon. What is the schedule for starting to remove the large rocks that set under the rails? As was the case about a year ago, I was only able to run as far as where the rails are piled up, where the rough stone starts. Beyond that point, the rocks made it too rough to try and run or even walk. Just wondering about that. Thanks again for all the efforts!!
The final surfacing at the completion of construction is a paved surface, from the High Street intersection to the end by Glen Road.
So it sounds like the trail really won’t be usable for walking or running until the last phase of the completion. That’s too bad. So the trail won’t be unpaved like the rest of the rail trail?
Hi John, that’s correct. The only open sections of the rail trail is from Spencer St East towards Enfield. The rest of the MRG west from High St will have barriers up during construction season. It will be paved, unlike the existing segments, because this will function as a non-motorized transportation corridor connecting Lebanon and West Lebanon – suitable for road bikes, strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, runners, skateboarders, etc. We intend to plow one side during the winter for year-round use.
OK, thanks for the information. Very helpful. It will be great when it is done. I live on Maple Street in West Lebanon and drive to the start of the rail trail and run most weekends. It will be great to eventually run the whole thing from my house! Thanks again.
